The National Conference Center (NCC), originally opened as the Xerox Document University in 1974, was designed and built exclusively to host productive training meetings for Xerox Corporation. Every aspect of the facility was geared to minimize distractions and maximize learning. The campus was large -- a footprint of over a million square feet on close to 3,500 acres of woods in the Potomac River Valley. Conference rooms were task driven, not opulent, with a focus on what makes a great training environment (lighting, acoustics, etc.). Guest rooms were intentionally small to encourage teamwork and networking, and discourage individual hibernation.
Since then, much has changed, like completely updated guest rooms (although they are still relatively small - think European or pod style), a technology infrastructure with incredible band-width, and the addition of the West Building and The National Ballroom, where IACC conferees will enjoy most of next week’s events. And some things haven’t changed, like NCC providing a highly productive learning environment for organizations that place a premium on value and watch their budgets closely.
